Marie La Veau (* 1794 in New Orleans; † 16. June 1881 in New Orleans) its as originator that one understands today by Voodoo, is considered.
Marie LaVeau became 1830 Voodooqueen and were thereby not the only one at that time in new Orleans. There were many groups, which competed also with one another. But LaVeau switched it off all somehow. Some died suddenly, others left the city, other one swore their following. At that time Voodoo trailer was considered as satanism and had to count on pursuit. Marie LaVeau reacted to it, by mixing Voodoo with the catholicism, for example with catholic devotional objects, holy statues and crucifixes. It stated, Voodoo trailers were good Christians. Was tried again and again to bring Marie LaVeau before court. But it never came to a process. Obviously they protected their various relations and their knowledge over the society New Orleans. On 16 June 1881 Marie Laveau deceased. But it is not safe whether this is not rather the day of death of one of their daughters.
